Yeoh Jin Leng belongs to one of the earlier generation of Malaysian artists. Born in 1929 in Ipoh, JinLeng’s work has been widely regarded to be one of the best among his peers and in the Malaysian art scene. JinLeng studied at the Anderson School in his hometown before embarking to a teaching course at the Malayan Teachers’ College in Kirkby in Liverpool.
Jin Leng started his career as a school teacher in Ipoh and in 1952 joined the Malayan Teachers' Training College, Kirkby, Liverpool in the United Kingdom. It was there that his interest in art developed and after serving five years as a pioneer teacher in Kuala Terengganu, he received the first federal scholarship to further his art studies at the Chelsea School of Art and also the Institute of Education, University of London.
Apon his return to Malaysia, he became a leading artist and later, potter. He was a full-time lecturer at the Specialist Teachers' Training Institute, Cheras, Kuala Lumpur for 20 years until 1983.
