Paul Wong ( 黃貫中 )

Paul Wong Koon Chung (born 31 March 1964) is a Hong Kong singer-songwriter. He is best known as former lead guitarist of the rock band Beyond. He began his solo career in 1999.

Biography

During childhood Wong enjoyed drawing and aspired to become an artist. While studying graphic design at Hong Kong Polytechnic University, he met Beyond drummer Yip Sai Wing and other band members, becoming the band's lead guitarist. Since he worked as a graphic designer for an advertising company, he also contributed artwork for the band, examples of his design are the front cover of the EP Goodbye Ideal and fashion design for the concert in 1991.

In regard to his vocals, he first sang lead vocals on the album Modern Stage, in the same year the band recorded and released the album Secret Police, "Big Land" sung by him from the album became one of the band's best known songs. On 30 June 1993 Beyond vocalist Wong Ka Kui died in an accident, thereafter Paul Wong and the band's bassist Wong Ka Keung replaced him to sing and continued to record and release albums under the band's name.

After Beyond's dissolution in 2005, Paul Wong went on to work with his new band Hann and the Postman as a solo artist. On 18 October 2006, Paul held his second solo concert in Hong Kong Coliseum, and released the sixth solo album on 17 November 2006. Since 1998 Paul has dated with actress Athena Chu. They married in 2012 and has a daughter.
